It’s our anniversary...

It’s our anniversary...

And here’s a poem about a song about that:

Yesterday we “celebrated” 8 years of being married

and I put that in quotes because we remembered halfway thru the day

and we drank a bottle of wine on the back deck while our kids “spread their buttcheeks” at each other which we only found out later

because it escalated into something violent and one of them screamed

and that woke up the baby.

And today I read this essay

and thought of this song which is so beautiful in its honesty that it breaks my heart

and I’m so hoping, as hard as it is sometimes,

that we can keep on like this forever

friends mostly, enemies now-and-then

hatching lofty plans on our back porch, while the sky falls down around us...

that we thrive

“let us thrive, let us thrive, let us thrive, let us thrive.”

Happy Anniversary, husband.

P.S.  Bill Callahan just wrote an entire album about getting married and having a kid... listen to some of the songs from Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest here.

P.P.S. The painting in cover photo is by artist/mother Joy Patrice O’Brien.  Check out her portfolio here.
