Cool Mom Tunes: The Song that Sums Up My Life Right Now

Heyyyy.

Maybe when you regularly Google search things like “5-year old sleep regression insanity” and “what sort of voodoo invokes the sorcery of Merlin’s Magic Sleep Suit 😡🤬?!” or order your umpteenth copy of Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child (whilst cursing the hubris that purged the first TWO!) Spotify knows this song is your life anthem and adds it as a sad, sardonic, addendum to every playlist you make, no matter how pop-y, no matter how peppy.

Thanks, all-knowing internet, for the reminder I’m hangin out half-dead every day.

Here’s Sleepwalker, by Julie Byrne

And here are some key lyrics for wakeful moms.

(Hint:  insert “kids” each time you see “you/them”)

I lived my life alone before you

And I grew so accustomed to that kind of solitude...

Before you, had I ever known love...

And sometimes I did, I felt ancient
But still I sought peace and it never came to me

I stood before them all, I was a sleepwalke
r.”

 —

I know you “feel ancient” but you’re still cool, mom.

P.S.  I swear I love my kids.

P.P.S. You’re Not Imagining It, Mother’s are Sleep-Deprived for the First 6 Years of Parenthood.
