My Holiday Uniform.

My Holiday Uniform.

I’ve never had a job that requires regular dress ups, so I don’t have a lot of nice stuff sitting around.  And buying it always feels like a big old waste.  But since I’ve had some events lately that require more than my typical jeans and tee, I looked to British fashion hero Alexa Chung to inform a classy uniform of sorts, something I could wear over and over- not too daring but not a total snooze-fest either.  Alexa likes to pair masculine and feminine stuff- structured blazers with frilly tops, bows, and a couple wacky accessories.  See here:

After rambling around in research mode, I decided on a versatile pantsuit-type number.  Here’s what it needs:

This double breasted blazer (a tad funkier than the standard uni-breast):

This camisole, which I can switch out for frilly button-up stuff if I wanna go full-on Chung:

These pants, which my friend Tricia swears are the most flattering:

These boots, which I’d love to upgrade one day:

And these accessories...

This hair bow:

These hoops:

And MAYBE this bag (or a similarly weird thrifted one), if I’m feeling real bold:

And voila.  I’ve already worn it three times!

What are your staples for fancy times, mom?
