Perfect Weekend Pairings: Old Age
(A quick PWP review: I’ll choose a theme and create some inter-disciplinary partnerships that are current and most definitely cool. And you’ll have all weekend to digest)
Today’s Topic: Old Age
Hey mom! This weather change has me all dry and scaley and dusting off ye olde humidifier. And since all the lifestyle blogs tell me it’s life-giving, I’m dutifully glugging some essential oils in there (you tried bergamot yet?). I’m slathering on the creams and lotions. I’m grabbing the thickest socks and and shooting for the earliest bedtime. And before I reach slumberland, I’m pondering my demise with this surprisingly lovely book. ‘Tis the season, eh? Here’s the latest and greatest on getting old:
PAIR THIS encouraging piece on big deal writers who had their first hit while “over the hill”
1. 20 Debut Works of Fiction by “Old” Women (Over 40) (via Lit Hub, Nov. 8)
(GASP! Loved seeing Annie Proulx and Elizabeth Strout on this list!)
WITH THESE things that just get better with age
2. My New Favorite Place to Get Old Stuff: Kibster (New to me, Nov. 6)
Old Photos, New to Us. (Via New Yorker, Nov. 8) I mean! Did you see how beautiful?! Just when I thought Vivian Maier couldn’t get any cooler!
Vivian Maier, Location and Date unknown
AND. finally. THIS update to the archaic state of affairs
4. Out with the OId White Dudes. Candidates who made history in the 2018 midterms (via Fader, Nov. 7)
Lots to celebrate, but
“Miles to go before we sleep... And miles to go before we sleep.”*
Have a cozy weekend, mom!
But be sure to Stay Cool.
