The Mother As Creator: Photos by Annie Wang

The Mother As Creator: Photos by Annie Wang

Hey there!
As mentioned, I’m always interested in when artist moms make motherhood the subject of their work.  Here’s a great photo project by Annie Wang.  The premise?  She takes a photo portrait of herself and her son every year.  In the background of each portrait is the one from the previous year.  The final photo chronicles 17 years of mother-son portraits!

See below.

Year 1, 2001:  Wang is pregnant with her son, the day before his due date

Year 2, 2002:  Boy is 1 year, with pregnant Wang in background.

“I believe in the parity between Motherhood and artistic creativity, I attempt to combine the role of mother and artist while trying to represent this fusion with an interlocked series of works expressing, at first hand, the experience of Motherhood.”

Cool, huh?

 See the entire series here.

p.s. more artist moms who tackle motherhood as a subject

P.p.s. Thanks for the tip on this, Lindsay!
