Weekly Culture Recap: Take Comfort in Culture
Geez, it's been a tough week for lots of moms out there! Hurricanes, hydrogen bombs, and the end of the DACA program.
But take comfort, great things are happening...
IN MUSIC & ART!: I'm loving the visuals in St. Vincent's "New York." The colors, the compositions, everything! Perfection.
It was directed by artist Alex Da Corte, who had a recent show at MassMOCA. He's got a real consistent aesthetic, featuring a love of neon, pink + green, and the occasional swan.
IN FASHION!: NY Fashion Week is in full effect. Check out some great street style here.
And everybody's talking about the Fenty X Puma show (Rihanna's label).
Whoa. Sounds like my nightmare. I tend to steer clear of anything death-defying. No thanks, I choose life!! It's just that the clothes are real good. See pics of the collection here.
IN MEDIA!: Fascinating piece about the "evolution of women in stock photos" from the NYTimes.
Well, that's hopeful.
AND IN LITERATURE!: Speaking of boss ladies, thanks for the encouragement on this literature post about female biographies. Got a great recommendation to check out Bravery Magazine, "a quarterly print publication for kids featuring strong female role models. Full of artwork, stories and fun educational activities."
I was cheering on a friend at the Ironman, Wisconsin yesterday and got teary just about every time a woman passed by. I know, I know, women being strong and stuff isn't new, but I had just read this book (all about the first female marathon runner, Bobbi Gibb) and kept thinking about how far we've come!
Oh, yeah. Long-distance exercise is also my nightmare, along with this: while we were away, the inevitable happened: we lost "Lambie" (my son's beloved mini-blanket). We are currently in the 2nd stage of grief: anger. He hates Wisconsin so much right now.
Wish us well this week as we comb through city toy stores for Lambie's long-lost "cousin."
